The silver coin was originally minted during the reign of Alexander the Great, beginning in 336 BC. Alexander only ruled until 323 BC, when he died at the young age of 32. After he died, the kingdom got split among four key generals.
Alexander's coinage had become a trusted international currency, much like the U.S. dollar today. So even after Alexander's death, because of the reputation of the "Alexander drachm", this coin continued to be struck for nearly another 200 years!
This highly collected coin features a profile of Herakles (often associated with Alexander himself), adorned with the lion skin headdress of the Nemean lion — a symbol of strength and divine favor.
The reverse side shows Zeus seated on a throne, holding an eagle and scepter, with the inscription of ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ (of Alexander) in Greek.
The ring is handmade in 21K yellow gold, solid and nearly pure. It has a distintive hammered finish, inspired by the ancient metalworking techniques used by ancient goldsmiths.
The ring, including the coin, weighs 11.2 grams. (The coin weighs 4.2 grams.) The ring is 18mm wide and finger size 7.0.
