That’s how it all began for Pardes and Kate. One of Pardes’ friends complimented her shoes with a casual, “Nice UGGs.” (For the record—they weren’t UGGs.) The comment sparked a playful conversation and a brief boot-style lesson. That lighthearted exchange turned into something more when Pardes asked for her number and suggested they hang out sometime.

Then, the world changed. As the COVID-19 pandemic brought life to a standstill, gyms closed and social plans faded—but something special bloomed. Pardes became her “walking friend,” and together they explored the quiet, empty streets of D.C., slowly becoming best friends and partners.

Their favorite escape? The rooftop of Kate’s building, where they’d watch the sun dip behind the monuments and dream about what the future might hold. Five years later, that same rooftop became the backdrop for a breathtaking proposal at sunset. A full-circle moment, beautifully planned by Pardes—the romantic all along. 

But before the proposal came the ring—and it had to be the ring.
