This antique Edwardian era necklace is the piece that you didn't know was missing in your collection.  An exquisite piece, featuring a delicate garland-style design, adorned with antique cut diamonds in elegant scrolling filigree.  The necklace culminates in a graceful dangling diamond drop.

Hand crafted in the typical "silver over gold" construction that was popular in the Edwardian period (1901 - 1915).  This method used sterling silver on the top, as at the time white metal was preferred for diamond settings since they enhanced the brightness of the diamonds.  However, platinum was quite expensive, and very difficult to work with in these early years, before advancements were made in metalworking techniques.

Sterling silver easier to shape than platinum and provided the desired white metal.  And the backing being 14k yellow gold, added strength and prevented tarnishing to the back side.  This method was a transition between the Victorian and Edwardian styles, before paltinum became widely used.

You will love the delicate filligree and open work on this beauty.  The scrolling motifs were very fashionable, influenced from the French Rococo revival.  A bold, yet light, airy and lace-like design.  So much to love!

The necklace is a good sized statement piece.   A treasure to add to your collection.

Estimated diamond weight is approximately .80ctw.  Circa 1901 - 1915.
