A beautiful set of genuine antique cut diamond drop earrings.  Each diamond is over 1/2ct, and about 100 years old - or older.

Diamonds cut during the early part of the 20th century are referred to as Old European Cut diamonds.  These antique cut diamonds are characterized by having small tables (the top flat part), a taller crown (the top 1/2 of the diamond), an open culet (the very bottom 'point') and facets which are larger and chunkier.  This gives the diamond a more romantic, antique feel.  They also tend to flash colored light out from the facets, more so than modern cut diamonds.

The diamonds are set in 18K white gold 6 prong basket settings, with a French wire so the diamonds drop down off the ear lobe.  When we bought the earrings, the mountings were damaged, and had been poorly repaired.  So we replicated the design and made them new.  But the design is the same as what was made in the early 1920s.

The diamonds have been graded by GIA and have the lab reports.  They are:  .56ct, I color, VS2 clarity and .55ct, J color, SI1 clarity, for a total weight of 1.11ctw.

A perfect pair of heirloom diamond earrings!
